Bart and I recently saw the movie A Dog’s Purpose . It was a really heartwarming movie. It wasn’t funny like a comedy nor was it action packed like action or adventure movies. It was a journey with a dog as it reincarnated repeatedly. By the end of the movie he reconnects with his beloved owner from the beginning of the movie.
There were a lot of things in the movie that we could relate to Bebita. The first being one of the dogs was dumped in the country and left to fend for itself. If you recall, my sister-in-law saw someone dump Bebita and another dog out by train tracks in the country. My sister-in-law turned around and scooped them up to save them. She found a home for the boy dog and she asked us to watch Bebita for a few days. Bebita was instantly our little girl.
In the movie, as the dog can’t understand why it keeps getting shots. Today, Bebita got her booster shots for parvo and distemper. We also scanned her to make sure her microchip was in place. It was. While we were there, we had the vet look to see if she was spayed. The verdict is she has what looks like it could be a very faint spay scar, so we need to wait and see if she goes into heat at some point.
One of the lives of the dog placed him/her in a family with children. The children would do all sorts of things. If I recall correctly, they played dress up with their dog. As you can see, Bebita makes a great model.
A Dog’s Purpose showed so many things that happen in various dogs lives. There was a police dog who had to work and had no fun and eventually gave his life for his partner. Naughty puppies. Dogs on farms. Kids who loved their dogs and played with them. Sadly there was also the abused dog who spent his life tied to a tree for years never going inside or being played with. Dogs were playing at dog parks. People met future spouses via dogs. I could go on and on.
A major theme in the movie was Why am I here? What is my purpose?
Through out the movie I thought I recognized the voice who was narrating as the dog. It turns out it was Josh Gad, better known as OLAF the SNOWMAN!!!
The answer at the end of the movie to what is my purpose included: be happy, give lots of kisses, don’t dwell on memories of the past, and live in the moment.
I think we can all learn a lot from the movie.
